Run Bronnie Run

A little while I ago I posted about the Monday Night Running Club and an update on my Race for Life progress. Between now and then I have hurt my knee resulting in a month off training and also had visitors, a new job, a trip to Glastonbury and basically just a London Summer to contend with so my training for my run had been pretty intermittent.

Since some very generous people had sponsored me and I had committed to it I was up bright and early on the day and met up with Sam and Shea and gave it a go! I am proud to say that I completed the whole 10k run without stopping in 1hour and 7minutes. My aim was to complete it in under 1 hour but considering I hadn't done much training I was still really happy with this time. I also managed to beat my target of fundraising £100 with a total of £15 due to the generosity of my friends and family.

Since then I have decided that running really isn't so hard and I really have no excuse to stop trying to go further and improve. I have now signed up for the Men's Health Survival of the Fittest in November with three of my housemates. This one will be even more challenging as it includes an obstacle every 1km but I am determined to give it my best go! I also have my sights set on a half marathon in March so I will keep you updated on how I go!

Race For Life - Update

So a few weeks ago I told you about the Monday Night Running Club and my attempt to get fit do 10k run in the Race for Life to raise money for cancer. I am pretty proud to say that I have been training semi-regularly and recently did my biggest run yet - 7.5k.

Now I know that isn't much considering many people do this is a warm up but trust me when I say that is the longest I have ever run in my life. It was good to know that I am on my way to reaching my goal. Sammy my housemate is training for an off road run so we got up early one Saturday (ew yuck) and went for a run through Wimbledon Common. It was good to be out in the park rather then pounding the pavement even if it was harder to run on such uneven surfaces and even up a few hills. While we were there we discovered a group of runners that meet every Saturday to do a 5k loop.

Its called Park Run and they are held all throughout the UK. You can register for free and download a barcode and they scan it as you run and every time you do it they time you and you can see how you progress and even work out your personal best. Me and Sammy signed up and hope to do it on a weekend soon (we have both been away at different times) so we can do the 5k loop and see if we can double it one day in our own time. So I am getting there slowly! The monday night runs have turned into random dates during the week - some mornings some nights but I usually at least go for one good run a week!

The only thing I haven't been doing is kick starting my fundraising. I thought since it was only a couple of months away and I have quite a target to reach - £100 I would start plugging away.

If you would like to donate please click here> Every little bit helps and it would be really appreciated not just by me but for those it goes to in the end.

Thanks guys! I will update you on my progress again soon!

Monday Night Running Club

A couple of weeks ago I decided to take on a bit of a challenge and signed up for a 10K charity run- Race for Life to raise money for cancer. I have several friends who's have been affected by cancer either directly or through family members and if I can raise a bit of money and awareness while getting fitter and healthier then thats the least I can do.

For those of you know me you all know that I am not the fittest person alive and the thought of running for any distance is something I am not familiar with. I thought training for this run will be a good chance for me to get fitter, see more of London while I train in different areas and basically just have a bit of fun. Its not until the end of July so i have a good six months to train myself up, stay fit and work on my running time.

As my housemate Sam is also training for a charity run in May so we decided to do a bit of training together. The other girls in the flat Siobhan and Jules decided to come too so we scheduled in regular runs on a Monday night which is a good motivator and a good start to the week.

The first time we went we ran (with a few walking breaks) 3.5k and the second week we ran 3.8k. Which is a pretty good effort for the first couple of weeks. Sammy and I have also done a few other runs in the morning and i've hit the gym and did a 5k run there. So far the training is going pretty well but I will keep you updated as I go along and of course closer to the time there will be a shameless plug for donations! Also if I tell everyone about it there is no way I can back out!
